Summary
An Interventional Pulmonology Advanced Practice Provider works in collaboration with a Physician group of consulting providers that specialize in the management of complex airway and pleural diseases. Interventional Pulmonology offers advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to aid in the treatment of benign and malignant diseases of the lung. In general, the Advanced Practice Provider exercises autonomy in medical decision-making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to adult patients with a variety of pulmonary disorders. This may include managing patients with complex, acute, critical and chronic pulmonary conditions. In addition, the individual collects and assists in the interpretation of reports from diagnostic and laboratory tests, radiographic procedures and clinical studies. This position involves a significant lever of autonomy in decision making within the scope of responsibilities.
This contingent position for Interventional Pulmonology is on Thursdays, 8hr shift working to support procedures in the Operating room.

Responsibilities*
Operating room
- Obtain consent for elective outpatient and emergent cases (inpatient/outpatient)
- Provide support of pre and postoperative care and paperwork (history and physical note, consents, pre and postoperative orders, discharge orders, or coordination of admission to inpatient service, etcetera).
- Serve as liaison between OR room staff and IP Faculty for proper set up of equipment and tools for OR /MPU procedures, which will be performed by IP Attending
- Perform the following procedures:
- Chest Ultrasonography
- Thoracentesis with pleural manometry
- Small bore chest tube insertion
- Chest Tube placement and removal
- Tunneled Pleural Catheter insertion and removal
- Bronchoscopy – Airway surveillance/Bronchial alveolar lavage
- Assist attending during therapeutic bronchoscopy in OR
- Tracheostomy change/ removal
Procedural Requirement:
APP will be trained and supervised by IP Faculty until credentialing requirements are met. APP is expected to perform these independently afterwards.
- Chest Ultrasonography

Required Qualifications*
NP:
- Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner specialty certification in the State of Michigan.
- Current specialty certification to practice as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner.
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
- Current DEA registration required
- ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center)
- Minimum 2 years experience as an Advanced Practice Provider
PA:
- Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required.
- Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- State of Michigan Controlled Substance License Required
- Current DEA registration required
- ACLS required (separate AHA approved BLS also required unless ACLS was completed through the UMHS Simulation Center)
- Minimum 2 years experience as an Advanced Practice Provider
NOTE: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of the credentialing and privileging process.

Desired Qualifications*
- 5 years general Pulmonary, ICU, IR or Thoracic surgery experience strongly preferred.
- Experience in performing and/or assisting in pulmonary procedures is desired.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team is required.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills are required.
- Understand billing and coding from APP standpoint in regulation with state guidelines
Work Schedule
Shift/Hours/Days: Thursdays, 8 hour shift, supporting procedures in the Operating Room
